Preparing for state examinations

Objectives

To prepare participants for successful completion of the state language examination in English
To acquire the knowledge and skills for the written and oral part of the language examination
To teach participants to see language learning as a lifelong process.
Scope of the course

150 lessons divided into 3 parts.

Admission requirements: passing the grammar test at Upper-Intermediate level (the test can be taken in our office by making an appointment by phone – 0911 / 790 793 )

The whole programme is made up of 3 parts (grammar, conversation and literature) which alternate in parallel throughout the language course:

Grammar part

Present and Imperative, Past, Present Perfect and Past Perfect, Future and Future Perfect, Questions, Modals, Adjectives and Adverbs, Gerunds and Infinitives, Phrasal Verbs, Nouns, Quantifiers, Articles, The Passive, The Conditional, Relative Clauses, Indirect Speech

Conversational part

Theatres, cinemas, concerts, galleries, cultural relations with other countries, education in English-speaking countries and in Slovakia, holidays, travel, means of transport, pollution, environmental problems, leisure, hobbies, USA (geography, industry, agriculture, institutions), shopping, Great Britain (geography, industry, agriculture, institutions) health care, system of government in the USA, Great Britain, Canada, Sport in Slovakia, Great Britain, USA, History of Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, History of USA, My family, Family life, Human relations, Postal services, Letter writing, Telephoning, Canada, Hotel services, Restaurants, Tourist industry, Holidays and other important days in Great Britain and USA, Getting a job, Unemployment problems, Food, nutrition, eating habits, Vegetarianism and other diets, Necessity of learning foreign languages, Science and technology

English literature

Major writers from the earliest times set in historical context (Old and Middle English literature, Elizabethan poetry, prose and drama, Restoration drama and prose, 18th-century poetry and prose, 19th-century poets and prose writers, 20th-century novels and drama).

Literature

Significant writers from the colonial era set in historical context (Emergence of a national literature, American Renaissance, Civil War, era of realism and naturalism, writers of the lost generation, poetry and drama, 20th century writers)
